  2. Physical Development • Do not grow as fast infants and toddlers • Gain weight slowly while growing tall fast • Larger muscles grow stronger and are controlled faster than smaller muscles • Later the learn to control small muscle skills by playing with puzzles and such

  3. QUESTION What part of their body do preschoolers learn to use first?

Intellectual Development • Preschoolers have more developed thinking skills • They learn language and math skills • Match and sort objects and name colors and shapes • Learn new words quickly • Talk a lot • Answer simple questions and follow directions • Some have trouble talking • Do not criticize speech pattern

  6. Emotional Development • As preschoolers grow, they learn how to express emotions better • Need people to support them • Mood swings

Social Development • Preschoolers begin to get more independent • Praise them often • Want to dress and feed themselves • They do not say no as often as toddlers • Have trouble making decisions • Need to learn the consequences of their decisions • Learn to cooperate • Teach them how they should and should not act
