Computer-Assisted Indexing (CAI): CAI batch and CAI online Member States using CAI: China, Germany, Iran, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Austria, Bulgaria, Cuba, Japan, Mexico, Uruguay INIS Progress and Activities January - July 2012 • CAI online and CAI batch are one of INIS regular services • INIS Centres are encouraged to make use of CAI

  21. WinFIBRE: upgraded version (3.0.9) Developed and made available to INIS centres on the FTP server New features facilitate input preparation and improve its quality INIS Progress and Activities January - July 2012

INIS Collection Search (ICS)- New version developed with several valuable features including: Integration with the INIS Multilingual Thesaurus Full integration with INIS authorities; Subject Categories, Journals and Report Prefixes Enhanced multilingual user interface INIS Progress and Activities January - July 2012 • INIS centres are encouraged to use INIS searchwidget and add links to INIS from their websites

  23. INIS Database Production System (IDPS) is now Unicode compliant: Increased efficiency in INIS records processing Substantially improved both the quality and accuracy of the INIS Collection INIS Progress and Activities January - July 2012

  24. “Consultancy Meeting on Knowledge Preservation of Major Accidents in Nuclear Industry, 19–22 March 2012”,IAEA INIS Secretariat presented the important role of the national INIS centres in preserving such information Contact made with ILOs of Japan, USA and Ukraine: Enhance coverage of published literature of the major accidents ILO of Japan presentation: ” The Role of INIS in Collecting and Preserving Major Nuclear Accident’s Literature” Main TMI publications: majority are in INIS, some NCLs missing Opportunity to further enhance INIS coverage and the role of national INIS centres INIS Progress and Activities January - July 2012

  25. Capacity Building: Assistance provided to national INIS centres; Croatia, Georgia and Yemen INIS Secretariat continued to provide assistance to INIS centres on a daily basis INIS Progress and Activities January - July 2012

INIS Database on CD-ROM: Monthly CDs to INIS centres: 189 free and 25 paid subscriptions Monthly on the IAEA FTP server ILOs informed the product will no longer be available, as of January 2013 INIS NCL Collection on DVD: Four DVDs to INIS centres: 77 free and 6 paid subscriptions INIS Progress and Activities January - July 2012

Manuals: INIS/ETDE Thesaurus: New Japanese version The multilingual Thesaurus is now available in eight languages;Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish Updated version on INIS website Thesaurus Advisory Group: Established and active Solicited translation from INIS centres INIS Progress and Activities January - July 2012

Promotion & Outreach: Produced promotional materials; Newsletter Provided ILOs with lists of relevant meetings/events Provided ILOs with materials to assist them with promoting INIS within their national boundaries Delivered presentations to delegates from Members States at IAEA in-house meetings about INIS benefits, encouraging further contribution INIS Progress and Activities January - July 2012

INIS Website: Mobile version implemented: Visitors can easily explore the website on a variety of mobile devices, including iPhone, Blackberry and Android INIS Website user survey placed on the site INIS Progress and Activities January - July 2012 • INIS centres are encouraged to link to INIS from their websites

  31. Cooperation with OECD/NEA Databank: 95 computer programs provided to 15 IAEA MS 49 codes originating from IAEA MS were dispatched 1 new computer package received from IAEA MS INIS Progress and Activities January - July 2012

At the request of the Group of 77 and China: INIS Secretariat organized “INIS Briefing” on main products and services and highlighted the major benefits to INIS Members States The Briefing was well received and many participants pledged further support to INIS and its activities INIS Progress and Activities January - July 2012

  33. Human Resources and Budget: Since 2010, INIS staff was reduced by five (2 Professional and 3 General staff) Budget decreased by 17,5% Further decrease of 3.1% in 2013 INIS Progress and Activities January - July 2012

Summary • Special appreciation to INIS Centres: • Over 100 000 records annually • 50 000 searches monthly • Membership increases • Contributions from INIS Centres are instrumental: • Quality • Comprehensiveness of what is published within the country • Use of Open Access resources on the web • Submit other types of literature, audio, etc. • Special attention to identify and submit NCL full texts • Authorise the access to NCL full texts, when possible • Promotion and outreach • Use CAI and WinFIBRE • Voluntary input from INIS Members is most welcome
