  1. Quick Write On piece of paper (not scrap) write the steps you would take to… Find the density of a regular solid ex. Text book (should be at least 3 steps) Find the density of an irregular solid ex. Your pet rock (should be at least 3 steps)

  2. John Beede: setting goals

  3. Let’s Review • If the rock has a mass of 6.2g, and a volume of 1.8 ml what is the density? 1. Circle what they are asking for. 2. Square the data (numbers with units) they give you. 3. Use density triangle to write equation. 4. Plug in numbers with units (cross out any units on top and bottom) 5. Calculate 6. Check that your units are correct for what they want!

  4. UNITS • Units for Mass= _____________ • Units for Volume= _______ or _________ • Units for Density= _______ or __________

  5. Let’s review If a television set has a density of 32 g/ cm3 and a volume of 67cm3, what is the mass of the TV? If a stapler has a mass of 27g and a density of 19 g/ cm3, then what is the volume?

  6. If an ice cream cone has a mass of 51 g and a volume of 41cm3 what is the density? • If a basketball has a density of 11 g/ cm3, and a mass of 58g, then what is the volume? • If a pencil has a density of 3.6cm3, and the volume is 15 cm3 what is the mass?

  7. Water displacement • Used to find volume of objects without a L W H

  8. Do you laugh when other people laugh?

  9. Scientific Method: Myth Busters 1. Electric Cars 2. Cows and Greenhouse

  10. Scientific Method: Electric Cars • O • H • T • A • C

  11. Scientific Method: Greenhouse/Cows • O • H • T • A • C HW: HW 2-1 Density Problems

  12. Mapping Our Earth • Cartographer: • Cartography: • Types of Maps: Mercator Map Robinson Map Conical Map

  13. Mapping Our Earth • Types of Maps Cont. Bathymetric Maps Topographical Maps Isobar Isotherm

  14. Biggest Snake ever found

  15. Best Model For Earth: Sphere (Globe) • Latitude: • Parallel lines North and South of the equator • 0o to 90o North and 0o to 90o South • Responsible for your Climate • 0o Latitude=equator • Longitude: • Vertical Lines(meridians) that meet at the poles • 0o to 180o East or 0o to 180o West • Responsible for time zone • Oo Longitude Greenwich England • 180o E or W IDL : International Time zone

  16. D B E A C Give Coordinates for: A ______________, _______________ B ______________,_______________ C ______________, _______________ D ______________,_______________ E _______________, ______________

  17. Globe activity

  18. Map Scales Scale refers to the relationship between the size of the map and the actual size of area that is mapped, or relative distance.

  19. If Scale is 1cm = 1 KmHow far is it from A to B (Use Ruler) A B B A A B

  20. The TOPO map on the right bottom represents the land in the Google aerial photo above it. Notice the buildings and roads on the map can be seen in the photo.

  21. Web Resources • E-book, Reading TOPO Maps. http://www.map-reading.com/intro.php • How to read TOPO Maps: http://www.ghosttowns.com/topotmaps.html • Compass and Map Skills: http://www.compassdude.com/default.shtml • www.google.com Try various searches for “map reading” and “how to use _____” (fill in your subject. Try it with and without the quotation marks.
