  3. The Program • The M.Ed. In in Elementary Education is a 40-hour, part-time program for experienced teachers, who are working in educational environments. • The program has a 15-hour core and a 25-hour professional component. • The culminating products are an action research study and a portfolio that can be submitted for National Board Certification.

  4. The Schedule • The 15-hour core is completed in the first year of the program. • Fall sem. The Curriculum • The curriculum for the program is designed to prepare you to continually grow in your knowledge and skill through reflection and disciplined inquiry into your own and others practice. • The core was designed to enable that reflection and disciplined inquiry and address INTASC and NBPT standards.

  7. Curriculum (continued) • The professional core is designed to prepare you for the NBPT Early Childhood and Middle Childhood Generalist Standards. • You should build these competencies throughout your program of study. You will present them for assessment in EDU 6319 and EDU 6320.

  8. Curriculum (continued) • Most of the courses are web-assisted. You will access to the internet and Microsoft Word to complete your assignments, e.g., several of the courses use a technology-assisted, collaborative, problem-based instructional strategy called a WebQuest.

  9. Necessary Resources • Access to Microsoft Office Software, e.g. Word, PowerPoint, and Excel • Access to the Internet
