  3. History of Helsinki • King Gustavus I of Sweden founded Helsinki in 1550. • City passed to Russian rule in 1809. • In 1812, Helsinki was named the capital of Sweden by Czar Alexander I, in 1812. Finland in the Summer

  4. Events • The Helsinki Festival features the Helsinki Filharmonia and the Finnish Philharmonic Choir. • The 26.7 mile Helsinki Marathon lures many spectators which goes all through the city. Finland in the Summer
