Negative thermal expansion OF ZEOLITES project BY SINEAD, ILARIA, ISSY, DAVE AND SID
What are Zeolites ? • Zeolites are microporous crystalline solids with well-defined structures.
Zeolites that we looked at SBE RHO MRE
Generally, materials expand when heated because the particles gain kinetic energy and so vibrate more. • Some of theses zeolites decrease in volume when heated.
How we did it • We collected data about the zeolite structures • All the operations were done on the Linux operating system • The number of SI and O atoms were entered, and we changed certain variables to run the test. • The data was then analysed.
“Zeolite RHO has an unusual three dimensional monolayer surface with a topology that gives equal access to either side of the surface.”
