What are text-explicit questions? • Text explicit questions are questions with answers that can be found directly in a text. Examples: • What year is it? • Who are these people? • Where is this place?
Why ask questions when I read? • To help you think about what you have read • To check your understanding of a text.
Example • Question: What were the homes like in the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky in 1923? • Answer: Tiny cabins without running water
But the answers are right there for me, why do I have to ask questions? • You are asking questions to help you check to see how well you have understood what you have read.
