Radiation Protection aspectsCMS ZDC installation during TS#4 2012 Cristina Adorisio(CERN - DGS/RP)
CMS ZDC installation – TS#4December 20th, 2012 (3 days cooling time) LTEX Meeting, November 8th - 2012
CMS ZDC re-installation – TS#4 • Individual dose max: 156 mSv • Collective dose: 167 mSv • Few operations are done by the two EN/HE operators together: the share of the work has to be optimized • The operation has to be done two times (left and right of Point5) LTEX Meeting, November 8th - 2012
CMS ZDC re-installation – TS#4 • The EN/HE operators will use remote handling tongs (pince a distance) to maintain some distance from high activated objects (Inox bars) Two sizes: 2 m and 50 cm LTEX Meeting, November 8th - 2012
Conclusions Summarizing ( 1 DAY cooling time): 3 DAYs cooling time LTEX Meeting, November 8th - 2012 • The reinstallations of CMS ZDC has to be consider an ALARA Level II operation because of the great values of residual dose rates (more than 50 mSh/h at contact of the TAN and on the Inox bars) and because the individual dose could be more than 100 mSv
ALARA Optimization is a legal requirement if accumulated individual dose exceeds 100 μSv/year (ALARA) LTEX Meeting, November 8th - 2012 • Optimization includes • work coordination • work procedures • handling tools • design • material required optional
