Enthymemes: A condensed logical conclusion where the premises are left unstated Syllogism: Major Premise: Minor Premise: Conclusion: An instance of a form of deductive reasoning in which a conclusion is drawn from two given or assumed propositions (premises) A generalization A fact from a given situation The conclusion drawn when the major and minor premises are combined.

  2. An Example Socrates is mortal. Enthymeme: All men are mortal. Major Premise: Minor Premise: Socrates is a man. Conclusion: Socrates is mortal.

  3. YOUR TASK...SHOULD YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT (J.K. You don't have a choice!) Review each of the enthymemes provided on the following slides. Break the statements into Major Premise, Minor Premise, and Conclusion. THEY MUST BE LOGICALLY SOUND!!
