Critical Design Review Presentation
Launch Vehicle Dimensions • Length: 132” • Diameter: 6” • Weight: 61.8 lbs • Predicted Altitude: 10,000 ft
Final Motor Choice • Cesaroni M4770 Vmax • Thrust to weight ratio = 17.4:1 • Rail exit velocity = 112 ft/s • Stability = 2.2 cal
Mass Statement • Mass Margin: -7 to +11 lbs
Recovery • Drogue • 48” Hemispherical • Descent rate: 50.5 ft/s • Main • 180” Elliptical • Descent rate: 12 ft/s • 1.1 oz ripstop nylon • Ground Tests planned for March 28th Picture from http://westrocketry.com/articles/DualDeploy/dualflight.jpg
Subscale Flights • 2 launches that both exhibited coning • Have one final test scheduled for March 8th • 2 Potential solutions • Decrease length • Increase fin size
Payload Design Overview – Sensor Array • GPS • Accelerometer • Magnetometer • Vibration • Temperature • Pressure • Voltage • Current • SD Data Storage
Payload Design Overview – Hazard detection • Pseudocode: • Read image from Raspberry Pi Camera • Search the image for adjacent pixels that have RGB values outside of a defined range • Determine if these adjacent pixels occupy a big enough area • If so, mark the exterior by changing the pixels in a rectangle encasing the pixels to red • Send this image to the transmitter • Loop
