  1. Efficient testing initiate participation Pangaea Global AIDS Foundation And AIDS Care China Pilot program in Wuhan, China

  2. What is “inefficient” testing? • Queuing time is long • Inflexible timing • Complicated procedures • Long waiting time for report

  3. The results under inefficient model • Less people willing to get tested as they are afraid/fed up with complicated process. • Poor reporting and informing of test results create doubts and reduce willingness to maintaining treatment and adherence.

  4. What is “Efficient” Testing? • No queuing • Flexible timing • One stop services • Shorten the time for reporting

  5. Previous Elisa testing (hospital based, 2 days or more for result) WB testing (Hospital referred to CDC 3-4 weeks) CD4 testing (Only once a week, result informing over 2 weeks) VL testing (Once every 3 months, result informing could be up to 4-6 months) Pilot Rapid testing (Blood/Oral) (CBO based with immediate result) WB testing (CBO to CDC within 1 week) CD4 testing (Anytime during working hours, immediate or next day result) VL testing (Anytime during working hours, result informing within 2 weeks) Comparison between two models

  6. Rapid test and Point of Care

  7. The results show differences • More people adopt a more proactive approach to HIV testing. • Over 85% of the clients declared that they never had a test before: HIV+ rate from screening has been increased from <2% to over 5% within 1 year’s time which show the effectiveness in case finding. • People on treatment with over 180 days VL suppression(<40cp/ml) rate has reached >95%

  8. Conclusion • Convenient testing services with Point of Care technology could greatly support the scale up of HIV testing for case finding, as well as patient’s compliance to treatment for better treatment outcome. • Point of Care testing could be one of the most important elements to scale-up the response to HIV/AIDS by motivating the people from passive to active approach to services.
