In this lesson, you’ll learn how to send e-mail messages to your contacts by using Communicator 2007. You’ll also learn how to send an instant message or make an audio call to your Communicator contacts from Outlook. In addition, you’ll learn how Outlook saves your conversation history. Send e-mail messages to your contacts Communicator 2007 integrates with Outlook to provide the benefit of sending e-mail messages directly to your Communicator contacts. To send an e-mail message to your contacts from the Communicator window: • In the Contact List, right-click the contact’s name. • On the menu that appears, click Send an E-mail Message. Send e-mail messages to your contacts You can also send an e-mail message to your contacts if you are in an IM session with those contacts. In the Conversation window, right-click the contact name, and then click Send an E-mail Message. Hear and see your contacts with Office Communicator
Send an instant message or start audio calls The integration of Communicator 2007 with Outlook lets you send an instant message or make an audio call directly from Outlook. To do so, right-click the contact name in the e-mail request in Outlook. From the menu displayed, select the appropriate option to make a call or send an instant message to the contact. Send an instant message or start audio calls You can also reply to an e-mail message with an instant message or an audio call. In the e-mail message, click the presence status indicator next to the contact’s name, and then click either Call or Reply with Instant Message, as appropriate. View missed calls and the conversation history The integration of Communicator 2007 with Outlook will allow you to track information about your conversations. A folder called Conversation History is created in your mailbox. The folder appears in the Outlook 2007 folder list, along with other folders, such as Inbox, Outbox, and Sent Items. The Conversation History folder contains a record of instant messaging sessions, phone calls, and forwarded calls. Hear and see your contacts with Office Communicator
View missed calls and the conversation history The messages in the Conversation History folder carry the following information. • Time and date of the message • Mode and content of the conversation • Names of participants • Direction of the conversations (incoming or outgoing) Hear and see your contacts with Office Communicator
View missed calls and the conversation history In addition, the folder contains information about any conversations that included audio. A complete record of all IM conversations is kept in the Conversation History folder whenever you enable the option to record instant messaging and audio conversations.
