6. Chapter Nine The Mock Turtle’s Story

7. Summary The Duchess is strangely polite to Alice; she walks with her and engages her in conversation. Alice finds it quite unpleasant, as the Duchess keeps digging her sharp chin into Alice's shoulder. The Duchess also talks almost exclusively in morals; she manages find a moral in everything Alice says or notices. They reach the Queen, who tells the Duchess to run off or lose her head. The Duchess runs. The Queen announces that they shall go find the Mock Turtle so that he can tell Alice his story.

8. Alice and the Queen come upon the Gryphon. She orders the animal to take Alice to the Mock Turtle. The Queen goes back to see after her executions, and the Gryphon assures Alice that they never really execute anybody. She comes to the Mock Turtle, whose eyes are full of tears. He begins to tell his story.

15. Chapter10-The Lobster Quadrille Summary In chapter 10, Mock Turtle and Gryphon entertain Alice with the description and demonstration of a dance they called “The Lobster Quadrille.”

16. Steps of Lobster Quadrille- • Each with a lobster as a partner. Advance twice, set to partners. • Change lobster, and retire in same order. • You throw the lobsters as far as you can. • Swim after them. • Turn a somersault in the sea. • Change the lobsters again.
