  2. Right Columns! THHTU 3 1 2 6 + 1 1 5 5 You must always make sure that the units are definetly in the units column, the tens in the tens column, the hundreds in the hundreds column, thousands in the thousands column,etc.

  3. Units! THHTU 3 1 2 6 + 1 1 5 5 1 1 Trick alert! We see that in the units column 5+6=11 but we cannot put 11 in the units column because it is too many. So we leave the one unit in the units column but carry the one ten into the tens column as shown on the right.

  4. Tens! THHTU 3 1 2 6 + 1 1 5 5 8 1 1 Now for the tens. First we will add up the five and the two, so we know that 5+2=7. BUT,we still have the one ten left over from the units column, so 7+1=8. after that we will then put 8 in the tens column as shown on the right.

  5. Hundreds! THHTU 3 1 2 6 + 1 1 5 5 2 8 1 1 Now now lets all calm down as here we have a very easy one that all of us can do. All we have to do is one add one here! So we then go for 1+1=2! Ha ha! That’s so simple! Right, so we then put a 2 in the hundreds column.

  6. Thousands! THHTU 3 1 2 6 + 1 1 5 5 4 2 8 1 1 Eventually! The last part! Thousands. Brilliant small numbers too. Look at that. Three plus one. But still, we need to go through it together. So (I like using that word!),3+1=4, which finishes off our sum, which equalls 4281!
