1861 Velocipede • Wheels are two different sizes • Improvements: Has pedals on front wheel, harder to break • Problems: Heavy, hard to steer, Not fast, requires a lot of energy
1870 Penny Farthing bicycle • Used metal and rubber and that made them lighter than previous design. • Improvements: Hard to break and lighter. • Problem: Dangerous
1890 • First air filled tires • Improvements: New and better bicycle design, therefore less dangerous
1900 • Bikes become more popular and preferable as a transportation tool
Beneficial reasons • It's cheaper • It reduces pollution and energy use • You'll get exercise on your way to your destination
