Reading Goal: Drawing Conclusions • How can you tell how somebody is feeling without the person saying how he or she feels? • TPS • That’s right! People’s faces tell how they feel. Happy people smile. Angry people frown. Sad people cry.
Now you are going to guess how people are feeling based on their behavior. People draw conclusions based on clues every day and we should also look for clues as we read!
Before the teacher handed back their tests, the students were very nervous. Edward was the most nervous fo all because science was his worst subject and he did not think the test had gone well. When Mrs. Irksome handed back his test, Edward kissed the paper, hugged it to this chest, and stood up next to his desk. He did a little dance that made all the other students laugh. “Oh, yeah!” he said, and he spun around in a circle and acted as if he was a football player who just scored a touchdown. “Sit down, Edward,” Mrs. Irksome said, and Edward sat down immediately. He kept doing his funny little dance, though, while seated in his chair.
When we know things that aren’t actually written in the texts, we are drawing conclusions! We use clues all the time to get information we don’t know.
