Kyoto Protocol • The Kyoto Protocol is an international agreement linked to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The major feature of the Kyoto Protocol is that it sets binding targets for 37 industrialized countries and the European community for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions .
What about Singapore? • Singapore has acceded to the Kyoto Protocol of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). • Singapore can participate in Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects. The National Environment Agency (NEA) will serve as the Designated National Authority for the approval and registration of CDM projects in Singapore. • The Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources is spearheading the development of a holistic climate change strategy that actively engages the people and private sectors in climate change action.
