How do you know when you see an Eastern Bluebird and when you see a Mountain Bluebird? The way I know when I see an Eastern Bluebird and a Mountain Bluebird is simple. I remember the Mountain Bluebird because male Mountain Bluebirds are all blue and female Mountain Bluebirds are all brown. Eastern Bluebirds are blue on the head & back, orange breasts, and white undersides.
Why do you nest in cavities in trees when people think you nest on branches? I live in cavities for a very special reason. My reason is because my nest might get wet or fall off the branch. The nest is built in the Southeast part of North America and Central America. My nest is near edges of woodlands and farms. Some of my habitats are destroyed. that’s my very special reason.
Do you eat just worms & seeds or do you eat other things too? No, I eat other things too like caterpillars, other insects, and fruit. That makes me a carnivore & an insectivore.
Food Chain The Worm is prey to the Eastern Bluebird & the Eastern Bluebird is prey to the large snake.
Since your so small, do you have a lot of preatators? Yes, I have a lot of my predators are smaller than me though like ants, blowflies, and house sparrows . I do have a lot of predators bigger than me too like cats, raccoons, snakes, hawks, and other birds.
When they’re babies, does the mother take care of them or do they go off on their own like turtles? My babies don’t go on their own. I feed, cuddles, teaches them how to fly, and protects them from predators. We often change mates. My babies are small, wet baby fathers. We birds live up to 6 to 10 years. We don’t live that long in captivity. That’s how I take care.
How long does it take for your eggs to hatch & what do they look like? My eggs take a short amount of time to hatch. They take 13-16 days. My eggs are about an inch big, they are light blue and they have small tints of white.
