5. Believe and Ride • The life constantly goes through a process of change where new becomes old and old become yet another new at a different platform. • I am referring to BBA 1st year becoming 2nd year students and BBA 2nd year students who are now set to take the senior most position in the department vacated by their predecessors. I feel it is the right time for me to put across how I perceive the things to happen in the desirable ways. • Don’t forget that you leave behind a legacy for next generations and therefore be watchful of your acts and deeds.

6. When going gets tough, tough gets going • When the situations are difficult to handle you may feel puny and tend to turn your backs to it. This is not the managerial approach towards life. When the riddles are tough and situations are difficult like the rough sea, believe in yourself and have the courage to ride the waves. This will make you saleable, acceptable and adaptable which are the three main traits of a business manager. And all this comes from discipline in all fields. • So what I expect from you for the years to come is to be disciplined and help your one step juniors to follow your example and write a new chapter in the BBA department of this glorious college known as ‘YES PIET’.

7. Editorial Team’s View We are now at the end of a session, and the month of April is associated to reaping the winter crops. In this sense this part of the year comes as a challenge to go through the exam process to assess what all has been sown in student’s minds by their teachers. As such this issue of the magazine is the last of the current session. While we look forward to new session, there are so many things to look back upon and learn lessons for future betterment. The very recent farewell function has left behind some sweet and sour experiences and more than that points to ponder upon the ‘sour’ parts of it. We also take this opportunity to wish all aspirants a successful ending with best university results.

9. April, The first month of the new financial year has gone by setting new targets and goals for all of us in terms of teaching-learning process. We all know that in the world full of competition only competence helps you to survive . Each one has to set new benchmarks for personal and institutional excellence, which is a continuous process. Let us girdle up to welcome the fresh set of students in BBA and be prepared to meet new challenges to achieve what is aspired.

14. BBA Farewell 2K16 (20 April, 2016) To make their departure memorable an excellent cultural program was organised by BBA 2nd year students. 15. A Dancing and Singing Farewell The performances of the 2nd year students to bid farewell to their seniors were all wrapped in dances and songs. As usual, the star performer of BBA, Anmol stole the show by his outstanding performance in solo category and Sanchita and Payal in couple dance.

16. Yaar Mod Do.. The very special highlight of the day was a melody by Prof. Vikas Nain suited to the occasion and dedicated to the students at the same time reflecting their own very thoughts. ‘Le lo paisa, te le lo pyaar, Menu mere yaar mod do’ And the house was carried away by this tidal wave when many of them joined this CHORUS.

17. Vedant (Mr. Farewell) And it was nice to see an exhibit of woman empowerment when Srishty Gupta made her class mate Vedant dance on the floor with a dancing spirit. The point worth mentioning is that Vedant is a university topper and is in no way related to Kinaesthetic intelligence. Hats off to him for presenting such a performance which no way looked his maiden sing.

18. And of course no moments are deemed completed without a group photo shoot. All BBA team is here under the shadow of their commanders Sh. Rakesh Tayal and Director sir.

19. Ms. Haryana 2k16 (24 April, 2016) Coming events cast their shadows before is the saying proved true by Ms. Manya Khurana (BBA Ist Year) who wore the crown of MISS HARYANA on 24th April at a contest held at PIET Manya, with her simplicity and beauty impressed the jury and did it in her very maiden participation in a glamour show. Well done Miss Haryana, you made BBA and PIET proud.

20. Mr. India 2K16 (24 April, 2016) While Manya was busy ramp walking at PIET, another BBA champ Mr. Harsheen Singh was participating in an event at Gurgaon where he won Sub Title (Mr. Adventurous) . It is YES PIET slogan which helps the youngsters to be courageous and participate in such events and win laurels. We must say the BBA faculty team is a blend of knowledge and extra-curricular working wonders to develop the personality aspect of the wards. Hats off to Harsheen for winning another title and bring name to PIET.

23. MAY May is word full of probabilities and etiquettes and also the name of 5th month of the Gregorian calendar. It sounds like it is asking April, “May I come in now as you are retreating”. The month, which opens with international labor day also throws the unavoidable challenge of Annual Exam for all. And parents, teachers and student say ‘MAY SUCCESS be the the moral of the even semester story’. While we would all be busy as a part of the exam, the seniors still MAY expect so much more from us all. So the month of MAY leaves the message that ‘I may not be undervalued’ by any means.

24. Final Semester Exams While blessing you all for your success in the exam, it is time to share not to have exam phobia on your minds. Here are some tips for you: Be regular and sincere in your studies Don’t sit late nights particularly the night before exam Avoid fast food as it kills energy flow Avoid internet related chats to keep mind in proper flow Don’t go empty stomach to the center Keep your will power strong and positive Say YES SUCCESS every morning

25. Heading for June automatically tilts the mind sets to admissions, which is everyone’s cup of tea. The arrival of new students brings with it new waves and colors. Obviously this is the stage setting time for new sessions to start. Excitement excitement and excitement…

27. Summer Internship Training - BBA • Summer internship is a major milestone in the life of a BBA student. Research has proved beyond doubt that it is not only an important tool to understand and bridge the gulf between theory and practice but also helps student to develop his / her executive skills. Those who do well in summer training are also the first to get placed during final placements and organizations may even offer you PPO (pre-placement offer) as well. • Always be willing to learn & adapt, have high dignity of labour and maintain good rapport. Here I provide you some tips and wish you happy learning:

28. Do’s: You should.. • Get an overview of the Company/Industry in which you are placed. This includes understanding the core business of the company, organizational. • Chart, key personnel in the company, manufacturing units, marketing channels, financial policies, etc • Obtain a copy of the latest annual report and analyse the financial statement, wherever possible. • Make an analysis of the company vis-à-vis the industry and prepare SWOT analysis. • Always maintain formal dress code. • Always be polite in dealings and maintain cordial relationship with the Company Executives. • Always be positive and open to suggestions. • Always make a note of the important points during meetings/discussions. • Get in touch with the Faculty Guide, if the situation warrants. • Maintain strict confidentiality of Company information. • Consult Faculty Guide or refer text books to reinforce relevant concepts. • Always submit bills in time when reimbursement is to be claimed. Get conversant with company policies/rules before incurring an expenditure. • Always be present whenever the Faculty Guide and/or Placement Executive visits the company. • Focus on assignment, and complete the individual tasks allotted on schedule. • Follow company rules and regulations

29. Don’ts: You Should Not.. • Leave the office without prior permission from the Company Guide. • Be impolite or rude to Company Executives. • Exceed the mandate given by the Company Guide and collect information that is confidential in nature. • Hold back any material /equipment /accessories provided by the company on a returnable basis. • Borrow money or any other personal effects of the Company Executives. • Interfere in third party assignments. • Encourage friends visiting work place during office hours and cause inconvenience to others. • Criticize the company policies and/or Company Executives. • Criticize or make adverse observations about PIET and/or Faculty Guide. • Attend the office in informal dress. • Get into arguments and lose temper. • Misuse the facilities offered by the company. • Go to meetings and presentations unprepared or ill-prepared.

Simplicity - No More a Virtue.. • Man is born simple and unassuming but starts getting infected, subconsciously, by the virus of hypocrisy and vanity prevalent in the environment when he/she starts growing.   When fully grown up, the transformation of his philosophical musings and way of life become ripe.  It is my guess that after a few generations, the gene code determining human behavior gets changed and the coming progeny tend to become more tendentious not to reveal its  real self, starts suffering from notions of false prestige and would behave artificially by default. • To go around on a bicycle has become completely out of fashion and the cyclists are looked down upon by the neighbor who owns a motor-bike.  A motor-cyclist is a tiny creature for an owner of Maruti-800.  Maruti-800 has become trash for those moving around in luxury limousines and SUVs… so on and so forth the cycle goes on.  An average man determines the degree of respectability and friendship vis-à-vis his fellow beings according to his financial status.  This is a very dangerous trend and will lead to society nowhere but to total chaos and a mad race.   This tendency of show-off has given rise of corruption, crime and degradation of health, wealth & above all moral standards.

35. Axis long term Equity Fund (G)-ELSS through SIP • Axis long term Equity Fund (G)-ELSS is a very rewarding option of investment for the investors as it offers multiple benefits. It comes with 3-year lock-in period of the ELSS to provide a unique approach to equity investing. It is an ELSS with a 3-year lock-in and investments under ELSS are eligible for IT exemptions under section 80C of the Income Tax Act, 1961. The money is invested in equity markets which are likely to give better returns over a period of time. • One can invest in Axis long term Equity Fund (G)-ELSS through SIP also.A systematic investment plan (SIP) is a plan where investors make regular, equal payments into a mutual fund. One can start this investment with monthly Rs 500 only. • Fund manager judge individual stocks purely on their prospects without trying to worry about the overall market direction or what the market benchmarks are doing. This has allowed the fund to create tremendous value for investors since its inception. The fund manager looks at companies that can sustainably grow profits and generate wealth over 3-5 years. Table 1 shows the returns of fund for different time periods. It reveals that fund grow at tremendous rate for 2 year, 3 year and 5 year period. The 3 year and 5 year period has the rank second and rank one respectively.

38. Proficiency-Based Learning System: New Perspective to Education • As a teacher, many of us must have heard this often from students: "Ma’m, I didn't do very well on the test. Is there any extra credit, I can do to raise my grade?" Or: "I'm so close to a high grade, how can I earn some more points?" Less often did students inquire about improving upon a comprehension of particular component of the content. • This debate of getting grades V/S learning is going on since last so many years. The past decades of education have influenced students and teachers to focus on grades rather than learning. Unfortunately, grades are generally an account of points earned through various activities that are influenced by artificial deadlines, subjective test papers, etc. It's time for us to change the student mind-set currently focused on reaching a particular percentage and instead empower them to take charge of their learning and measure their own success. • Proficiency-based education focuses on specific learning targets and the demonstration of a student's proficiency with the content. It allows students multiple opportunities to prove their understanding, and incorporates flexibility for individual learners rather than pushing all students through the content at the same pace regardless of their comprehension of the material. It creates a partnership between the teacher and student with regard to a student's progress, and it increases a student's ownership of her own learning. At that point, grades actually do indicate what a student has learned and is able to do.

39. Proficiency-Based Learning System: New Perspective to Education, Cont.. Although educationists are discussing transitioning to a similar system, it's possible for individual teachers to include the core concepts of proficiency-based learning immediately. The followings steps can be taken by individual teachers to improve learning: • First, set learning targets phased in a way that students can understand and provide a checklist of these targets. • Review the targets daily to remind students which ones were covered previously and which ones you'll be working with today. • Refer to these targets each time you cover new material. • Label all homework and classroom activities with a learning target so students understand the focus and can refer to the appropriate notes for a reminder of how to work with the content. • Engage students in a conversation about what it means to demonstrate proficiency. • Give them opportunities to show proficiency with each target as you move through a unit.

Proficiency-Based Learning System: New Perspective to Education, Cont.. • If a student does not meet a satisfactory level of performance on one target, provide another opportunity, rather than simply recording a poor quiz score in the grade book and moving on. • Before attempting the assessment again, however, the student must come in for additional support. • When students show proficiency on each learning target throughout the unit, they can move to the final assessment of that unit. With a proficiency-based learning system, teachers can more accurately pinpoint which concepts an individual student is struggling with. It gives order and structure to the content, like a path on a map. Students can clearly see what is expected of them, they can monitor their progress through a unit, and they can self-evaluate their comprehension as they prepare for assessments. If implemented well, a student will no longer ask for extra credit, but rather for an opportunity to demonstrate that he understands the content. He will know exactly what to do in order to reach her academic goals. For the teacher, you can finally speak with your students about their learning rather than their points!

Your school exit gate leads you to the college entry gate and college means embarking upon a new journey into the yet unexplored ‘professional world’. • So this is the time to be more responsible towards your own self. You should make sure not to miss your ‘breakfast’ and ‘classes’ because both are brain damaging habits. • In context of the Indian culture the girls must adopt DIY (do it yourself) concept on weekends and other holidays. This would not only impress parents but also fill you with more energy.

The Twilight Youth, Cont.. • What matters for you at this juncture is to dream for a bright future, a job where you can earn YOUR own money and feel assisting the parents. • So, to be there you have to be careful about your friendship. Learn the art of choosing NON-TOXIC friends. Don’t get impressed and miscarried by an awesome make-up kit or a stylish hair-do. Have friends with super inner qualities. • Wish you a healthy new phase of life.

Democracy • The biggest threat which the progressive, educated and civil society is facing today is lumpenism and the dictates from vigilantes of various castes & religions who have been lately trying to tie us intellectually within the narrow confines of a ghettoized existence. It has been observed that self-seeking politicians of all hues have been spreading a disguised message to the particular caste/religion they belong to, to get together purportedly against the hegemony of other castes/religions for their narrow sectarian ends. • First of all, the concept of unity on caste basis with an objective just to capture political power is a dangerous one, apart from being a utopian thought. Second, to raise a bogey of caste to capture political power is against the fundamental principles of a strong nationalism, secularism and healthy democracy. Moreover, it would be nothing more than foolhardiness in face of the fast changing social values where notions of caste and religion are taking a back seat gradually. Past is past and we cannot remain tied up with the black pages of history for ever. Let the history that was inglorious, not repeat itself and start a process of reconciliation.

49. Democracy Cont.. • The process of reconciliation has to have a starting point and someone has to take the lead. We must learn a lesson from Nelson Mandela who was incarcerated by the White Apartheid Regime for decades but he forgave them on coming to power. This gesture of Mandela did not lower his stature; it rather took him to a much higher platform earning him international acclaim and honor. • If we believe in pluralism and inclusive democracy, we must discourage divisive tendencies which are hallmark of a tribal dictatorship founded on the graves of lesser mortals. In theory, it may sound very soothing idea, but ground realities harshly defy it, So, friends, the need of the hour is to rise above caste, creed and religion and inculcate in our coming generations a sense of strong nationalism and complete social harmony if we want to see our nation grow stronger. Let us start from the forthcoming elections in the coming days.
