What is an interjection? • An interjection is a word used to express emotion. • It is usually grammatically separate from the sentence. • Ex: Wow! I wish this was my house.
Interjections in a Sentence • Because the interjection is unrelated to the other words in a sentence, it is usually separated by an exclamation point or comma(s). • Ex: Whoa. He definitely plays hockey. He may have lost seven teeth, but, wow, Duncan Keith was amazing in the third period!
YES OR NO?! • Yes, no, and indeed are also considered interjections. • Yes, this is a mother lion carrying her cub to safety. • No, she is not trying to eat him. • Indeed, it is easy to see why you would think that.
Sounds Good to Me! • Some interjections are sounds you would make to express emotion. • Ex: EEEEKKK! That was terrifying! Argh, the car won’t start! Awww, that lion cub was sweet. They will never see this coming, MUAHAHA!
