POST SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES • Career Technical Colleges—specialized training such as automotive, business, computer science, cosmetology, health care, etc. • Community College---Associates degrees, Career Technical Certificates or Apprenticeship – earn while you learn • Community College transfer to CSU/UC programs • College/University-- Baccalaureate degrees • Military/Armed Services

  9. California Community Colleges : • Apply early February-March 2020 for fall 2020 priority admissions and registration • Associate Degrees and Certificate programs • Transfer program to a CSU/UC - visit www.assist.org

Community college transfer • CSU- Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT) — sometimes called a Degree with a Guarantee — students who meet the CSU’s minimum eligibility requirements are guaranteed priority admission to a CSU campus, though not necessarily to a particular campus or major. • UC TAG agreements- Six University of California (UC) campuses offer guaranteed admission to students from all California community colleges (CCC). Students must meet campus-specific requirements to qualify for a UC TAG. By participating in a TAG program, students can ensure their admission to a specific UC campus.

COLLEGE Admissions A-G Minimum Subject requirements are: • (A) 2 year of History/Social Science • (B) 4 years of English • (C) 3 years of Mathematics (through Integrated math 3) • (D) 2 years of science —2 of which must be lab based science courses • (E) 2 years of LOTE -Language other than English • (F) 1 year Visual or Performing Art • (G) 1 College prep elective course

Which GPA do colleges use??? • CSU/ UC- Sophomore and Junior year GPA in the A-G requirements • If your student fixed a D or F before starting senior year CSU/UC will use the C or better to calculate their GPA • Private and out of state schools- depends on the school • Some use weighted cumulative GPA • Some use unweighted cumulative GPA

College Entrance Exams • CSU/UC , out of state and private schools… • Students must release their scores to the colleges they are applying to… • Exams must be completed by December 2019 for consideration • Several colleges have an Octoberdeadline • Check each college website for their deadline since they can vary • SAT information www.collegeboard.org • ACT information www.act.org

Private/Independent and Out Of State College Applications • Most Private/Independent Colleges use an online application service such as: • Common Application, Send.edu or Coalition for college • Many require a personal essay/statement • You must check deadlines and requirements online • Letters of recommendation from teachers, mentors, coaches, and school counselors are usually required

Letter of Recommendation Requests: • CSU and UC do not require a letter of recommendation • Ask for recommendation – from their teachers, coaches, employer, mentor and school counselor • Give them time - Three to four weeks is an appropriate amount of time • Seniors are required to- create a resume and complete the yellow senior questionnaire.

  21. College Athletics: • Must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center online www.ncaa.org to be recruited for Division 1 and Division 2 colleges • NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) many division 2 and 3 colleges are members of NAIA

  32. Avoid Preventable & Regrettable Mistakes • Attendance • 36 periods of cuts = No Graduation Ceremony • 36 for 6 classes, 30 for 5 classes • Closed Campus violation=Sat. School/Cut • No prior Early Dismissal = Cut • Cannot call in a student’s absence after they have left • Only those on emergency cards can excuse student • 1 ROP Class = 3 periods of cuts

  36. Graduation Ceremony • Must be in Graduation Dress Code • No adornments of caps and gowns • Poor behavior that draws attention from the ceremony will result in removal • Get here early-parking is limited • Tickets distributed Each graduate gets 8 tickets
