Post Production • Sound editorial to mix to release • Occurs once picture is locked (sometimes earlier) • About 8 hours per minute of film
Crew Descriptions • Supervising Sound Editor • The director of the soundtrack, responsible for scheduling and hiring the crew. Deals directly with the directors and producers. Oversees the Spotting Session • Dialogue Supervisor • Makes suggestions about ADR, responsible for the Dialogue Pre Dub • ADR Supervisor • Schedules the recording and supervises ADR, responsible for the ADR Pre Dub • Sound Effects Supervisor • Hires editors, cue sheets, responsible for the SFX Pre Dub
Crew Descriptions • Supervising Foley Editor • Cue sheets, schedules the facility, responsible for the Foley Pre Dub. • Sound Designers • Responsible for custom recordings, creating new sounds, etc. • Sound Editors • Cut from library of effects, assist in the recording and databasing of files. • ReRecording Mixer • Rerecord all of the stems into a combined mix in both surround and stereo formats. • Offline Editors
Spotting Sessions • Once the picture is locked, the supervisors, director, editor, and composer will watch the film and take notes about the soundtrack. These include • Music cues • SFX cues • Possible ADR
Delivery of files to sound team • OMF/AAF Export
Examples Spotting Notes • Observe the time code markers and detailed notes • These are useful for keeping track of work to be accomplished and setting timelines
