  4. Where is the Taiga Biome? • The Taiga biome is South of the Tundra.

  5. The Climate of the Taiga Biome Winter • Lasts for 6-7 months • Very snowy • Average temperatures below 0°Celsius

  6. The Climate of the Taiga Biome The Evergreens in the Winter • The evergreens are very close to each other, in order for them to keep warm.

  17. Life in the Taiga Biome Animals • In summer, the taiga fills up with millions of insects. • Many birds, migrate every year for the plentiful food supply.

  18. Taiga Wildfires • Taiga is prone to wildfires. • Fires will burn away the upper canopy of the trees • Sunlight reaches the ground.

  19. Taiga Wildfires • New plants will grow • Animals inhabit the area • Food is provided to animals that once could not live there due to evergreen trees.

  20. Water in the Taiga Biome • There are many bodies of water in the Taiga. • Large number of gouges in the land were there due to the Ice Age • Frequent rainfall = lakes and ponds

  21. Soil in the Taiga Biome • The quality of soil found in this biome is poor. • Thin (Cold weather) • Evergreen needles have acid that causes soil to decay. • Leaves from smaller trees fertilize the soil
