  3. 21st Century Models • “21st Century” is a current buzz word in ed. • We often hear of: • 21st Century Classrooms/environments • 21st Century learners • 21st Century literacies • What then, is the ‘21st Century’ framework?

  4. LwICT • If we think back to the MECY LwICT document, “21st Century” learning is framed by: • Creative Thinking Skills • Critical Thinking Skills • Ethics and Responsibility • Goal: Infuse LwICT into existing curriculum • Obstacle: Existing Curricula = Current Paradigm

  5. Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21) • www.p21.org • Life and Career Skills • Information, Media, and Technology Skills • The 4 Cs • The 3 Rs • Support Systems

Life and Career Skills • Skills which make students stronger and more equipped for the global world • Flexibility and Adaptability • Initiative and Self-Direction • Social and Cross-Cultural Skills • Productivity and Accountability • Leadership and Responsibility • “navigational skills” for life

  8. Learning and Innovation Skills (4Cs) • Collaboration, Creativity, Communication and Critical Thinking • These are considered the key skills that students should use as they learn content • Knowing one’s own learning process and being able to problem solve make learning content possible

  9. The 3 “R”s • Reading, Writing and Arithmetic/Mathematics • The 3 “R”s represent core subjects • Content and Themes of study • 21st Century Themes of Study (P21): • Global Awareness • Financial, Economic and business literacy • Civic Literacy • Health Literacy • Environmental Literacy

Learning Theory When we select a tool, we should be aware of the context in which it will be used: -Learning Theory -Blooms Taxonomy -Specific Task/ Learning Outcome Think of some of the ICT tools that you enjoy using, use frequently, or imagine yourself using as a classroom teacher. Where do they fit in? Is it balanced?
