Technology is important… • To individuals: • Streamlining and simplification of tasks • Providing access to a wide database of information • To society: • Effective & efficient communication • Accelerates collaboration across vast distances • To industry: • Maximization of production efficiency • Large scale production to meet increasing demands Because our children will one day be individuals working in a particular industry in society, technology has been increasingly introduced into classrooms

  5. A Day in the Modern Classroom… Homework: • Visit class website at home, download homework assignment, follow informational links, and upload final submission before next class • Have parents keep track of student grades and homework using online access tools

Positive Effectsof New Technology in Classrooms • Readily available information right at the fingertips of students and teachers • Interactive education for students • Allows for the introduction of technology to students early on • Resources to meet the needs of a very diverse group of students in any classroom setting

Negative Effects of New Technology in Classrooms • Costlyfor teachers and schools • Difficulty with at-home work for students without computers • Diverse socioeconomic background • Learning curve for some new technology can be difficult to acquire • Development of dependencyon technology • Students may take advantageof classroom technology • Access to inappropriate sites • Cell phone use in class

Potential Future Implications Technology has the ability to take over traditional classroom settings • Extinction • Will we still need in-person teachers and classrooms? • Dependency • Will technology become so crucial to the learning environment that schools will not be able to function without it? Advancement could either enhance or deteriorate a student’s educational experience. Time will tell.
