  1. Communiity Spirit is an enterprise who’s aim is to bring local communities together by arranging events and raising the profile of local fundraisers . The following document consists of the recommendations that I have decided will help us in achieving our goals. More importantly, it will give an indication of how I wish to generate the most amount of proceeds possible for our selected charities, but with minimal expenses involvedand will also demonstrate how the event will successfully be run.

  2. LOGO AND STRAPLINE Logo My community spirit logo can be recommended because it is a modern design which reaffirms Hackney’s status as an urban and hip borough that it is known to be. It reinforces the community ethos of the event. This ethos is evident through the bold and eye catching position of “Community Spirit” accompanied by graphics that illustrate a community. What makes this logo more unique is that it is not generic or too ambitious. It needed to be different from just a globe or people holding hands as you would of noticed on the first page of Google. Strapline My strap line “Doing it for the locals” is also recommended because of its deliberation to chose to mirror community (through the local dialect). It also is very commanding, which reinforces that we have a very strong community spirit and ultimately, links well with my logo because the theme of it is unity. The target audience consisted of “the community”, but specifically this included local charities groups, community groups and young people in which we are ‘doing it for’.

  3. Just give me the time and place… The date I recommend was the 29th of August 2013 from 2pm to 10pm. This is idyllic mainly because it is one of the sunniest days of the calendar year. We will have a better chance of getting a bigger turn out and happier faces, as more people want to be outdoors to get some fresh summery air. The event also takes place before during the late summer holidays so most families would be back from abroad holidays in time to resume school etc. Furthermore, I also recommend that this event should be kept on the 29th despite being a Thursday, because it is a bank holiday so I will still draw out more volunteers and not put them off because of the weather or time of the day. 8 hours is also long enough for people to drop in whenever they want (during those hours) and experience all the fun activities that will be present. Also, we are likely to receive more profit as well as promote our charities because of we have a long duration. I also recommend Hackney Downs Park because it is a large, spacious and peaceful area which has over 1000m squared area of land : enough to fit my charity pitches, attractions and activities as well as people coming. It also has good transport links as it has a railway station . Ultimately, I think Hackney Downs Park is ideal because I have personally experienced the tranquillity of the park thus it’s environment is ideal and less tacky then what would be of a product of for example a school field (where community events are normally held at.) Furthermore, placing it in the heart of the borough adds to the exciting factor that appeal people.

  4. Charities I have only chosen 2 charities for my event so that they can receive centre attention that would be not be likely if I had more (I feel) and hope to raise money for them. The chosen charities are: HackneyQuest and SkyWay. I have chosen these charities since they are local and not many people know about the great they do to contribute to a better Hackney. So, conclusively, it is a good chance for small local charities to start to get more well-known and recognised. The recommended price for each charity is £150. As there is only 2 charity pitches , the total income will be £300. I think this is a reasonable amount providing the attraction of 900 people would probably double up the price they used to keep and they are getting good large pitches of 10 metres sq.

  5. Ticket Sales The recommended price for an adult is £1.50and for children recommend should be FREE. I imagined many adults would accompany the children so I didn't want them to be thrown off by the amount they had to pay or else I may not only use adults I may lose children too. Also, food and drinks would still need to be bought. I thought the charge was reasonable providing all the activities and attractions as well as the freebies would be free. I recommend that children younger than the age of 12 get to go in for free because it is a charity event after all, charging children would only go against the motto of our event and hence be hypocritical and throw people off. At the same time, I recommended not to make the overall admission free because money was needed to go to the beneficial cause of the charities. The only exception to the adult admission fee that I have now considered is the elderly and disabled. Perhaps, charging them would be morally corrupt as they aren't as likely to go on some of the rides/activities.

  6. Attractions + Activities The recommended activities that will be present at the event include bouncy castle, face painting, bumper cars, trampolining, magic show , music and comedy. I recommend the carousels and bouncy castle as all time favourite for every child. It will keep the children motivated, so it would give the parents more time to visit the charity pitches as volunteers will be supervising . Rather than rushing home because children often get bored easily. Secondly, I also wanted to bring another traditional element tot the event so I recommended face painting. I also thought it would be symbolic especially as painters could perhaps offer charity logos etc. This would increase the awareness of the children! Bumper cars and trampoline is a very common and popular activity so many people would come and play. This is also an attraction would appeal to the audience categories and would thus, would keep the teenagers occupied. We could also hold events such as the best flipper (trampoline). Magic shows were recommended simply to make visitors leave their sense of doubt and be thrilled at the mysteries magic has to offer.Lastly, the comedy shows and music shows will be a very popular event that will be enjoyed by all . This is because lots of people enjoy a sing-song or a good laugh especially when it is popular artists performing live. Also if charities want to provide their own songs to sing along, then that option will be available.

  7. Food and Drinks The recommended food include chips, hot dogs, Jellof rice, naan and sweet bread, curry goat, fried nice, cake, crisps, tofu stew, egg fried noodles. I recommended these choices because I felt it was important to have a cuisines of that represents diversity and the general theme of the event. Hackney has a very large Afro-Carribean community so Jellof rice and curry goat is likely to be a huge sale. I recommended a mixture of heavy food such as rice etc and light food such as candyfloss mainly due to the fact that the event lasts for the duration of the whole day so as a thank you as such: I thought it would be best to have heavier food for those staying long and hence, are very hungry in comparison with those staying for a short time. Also considering the community themed event I thought it was extremely important to have an vegetarian option and not assume everyone is a meat-lover so tofu stew, fried rice and egg fried noodles etc were added to the menu. I also recommended burgers and chips because they are an all-time favourite which many people cant resist to eat. Alongside the popular walkers crisp s: rich in flavour and transportable care enjoyed by everyone! We have a range of refreshing drinks from Fizzy drinks to delicious juice! Having a best price for each drink to the maximum of only £2 ! I thought this was reasonable providing they are bottled drinks which often on ones own retails for £2. There is also a chance for adults to purchase wine which I feel is a risk factor in its own. And is based on the hope that adults are responsible with drinking. The worst case scenario is that some don't; in this case volunteers can refuse to serve and security may be called.

  8. General Suggestions For The Event If we take all these recommendations into consideration then our profit/loss, income and costs chart would look very similarly like this. So now you can see we would make enough profit to split between both organizations. All of the recommended prices have been carefully analyzed to ensure products are worth the investment. All of this will make sure that we would make enough income to sustain our event as previously reflected.

  9. The Good, The Bad And The Ugly In terms of the best and worst case scenarios, the best case would be that food will be able to cater for all the possible 900 guests that come to the event and the attendees enjoy the attractions and activities. Also, if the weather is nice and sunny this would all conclude into the whole number of people calculated coming and thus, the fundraising for the charities being a success. The worst case scenario could be that it rains heavily and the winds would be very strong disrupting stalls and marquees etc . If this was to happen then the number of people calculated to attend would decrease, food may possibly go to waste and the fundraising for the charities would not be as successful as if they were an entire congregation of 900.
