How do I Summarize a Fictional Story? • 1st sentence – Tell the name of the story, characters and setting. • 2nd sentence – Tell the conflict (problem). • 3rd sentence – Tell a plot event. • 4th sentence – Tell a plot event that came after the first one. • 5th sentence – Tell a plot event that came after the second one. • 6th sentence – Tell the resolution or solution to the problem.
Let’s Try It! • We are going to use Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
1st sentence – Tell the name of the story, characters and setting In the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the main characters are the Three Bears and a girl named Goldilocks and the story takes place at the bears’ home.
2nd sentence – Tell the conflict (problem). Goldilocks went for a walk in the woods all alone and wandered in the home of the Three Bears while they were away.
3rd sentence – Tell a plot event. Goldilocks was hungry, so she tried to eat the bears’ porridge.
4th Sentence- Tell a plot event that came after the first one. Then, Goldilocks was tired so she tried to rest in their chairs, but she broke Baby Bear’s chair.
5th sentence – Tell a plot event that came after the second one. Next, Goldilocks decided she was still tired so she tried to take a nap in the bears’ beds.
6th sentence – Tell the resolution or solution to the problem. Finally, the Three Bears came home and scared Goldilocks away.
