SER and INCO activities in KAII: an overview Two “horizontal” activities at FP level, integrated in each Specific Programme • rational • content of activities • results • focused next steps towards FP6
INCO in KAII strategy and actions eB & eW is a global issue: - global technologies and applications - drivers of the global economy - EU strengths need to be exploited globally - many win-win opportunities Main objectives for KAII: to support focused international access for European business, consumers and workers and to ensure Europe’s leading participationto international developments in e-business and e-work.
INCO in KAII strategy and actions A coherent geographical approach (why): - Enlargement - Industrialised countries - Meda and Latin America - Other countries Forms of INCO activities: R&D Broad adoption Policy development “Cost/impact” considerations in designing actions
Enlargement KAII initiated explicit support actionsfor full participation of NAS to the IST programme - infodays - ALs on Enlargement countries - NAS extensions of running projects - regional events and initiatives e.g. Baltics, EWEN, SEEbiz Results: very high participation of NAS in KAII eB & eW is advancing fast in NAS - close the gap - contribution to the Enlargement of the EU
Industrialised Countries IMS S&T Agreements with USA, Canada, Australia Bilateral co-operation actions with Canada, Australia Dependability Initiative with US Euro-Gifu with Japan Projects: involvement of partners from these countries and International Organisations
Meda and Latin America EU-MEDIS programme: eB & eW included, projects managed in KAII EU-LATIS and EU-@LIS programmes: active participation of KAII a number of events has and will be taking place in these countries Participation in KAII projects

Socio-economic research in KAII
SER in KAII InKAII, technology research is highly sensitive to the context in which it is being applied: e.g. economic, social, legal, aspects About 50 SER projects, including some roadmaps, are currently running in KAII Many KAII technology projects include SER activities KAII ensures the co-ordination of SER activities at IST programme level
Size distribution of SER projects 2 - 2.5 M: 10 projects 1.5 - 2 M: 4 projects 1 - 1.5 M: 8 projects 0.5 - 1 M: 17 projects mainly large projects (>1 mE) .... ... high expectations for results and impact!

Who is involved, and how? Draft reports will be sent to each project involved for contribution. Projects should provide relevant information, input, results, etc. Other projects, not listed, can also send informationto the rapporteur(s), to be included, when they perform relevant SER activities Reports will be finalised by 25th of June!
Exploitation of SER activities A collective effort is needed if results of related projects are going to be targeted, through exploitation initiatives, to well specified actors Eventually, a major European conference in less than a year from now, with active involvement of all projects concerned
SER in FP6 Already some roadmaps and clusters are running EoIs on SER have been submitted: analysis IPs and NoEs on SER: at FP6 level, IST level SER will also be an integral part of technology IPs and NoEs
