  3. Images are Active! Using some adjectives is ok (and necessary), but specific subjects and verbs create stronger imagery. Show, don’t tell! There is a difference between reading a description and creating imagery. Example: Instead of: tying shoes try: lacing up Nike’s Instead of: the scent of cookies baking try: aroma of Snicker doodles and sugar.

  4. Use the Five Senses Taste: tangy… Hear: staccato… Feel: smooth, velvety… Smell: pungent… See: ebony…

  5. More Imagery Similes/ Metaphors: • The rock skipped over water like a kangaroo. • The cat was a streak of lightening across the living room floor. • Amy was a mule. • Personification: • The wind sings a shrill note through the window. • The dog smiled.
