SIGNIFICANT EVENTS • Audio tape from AQAP endorsing killing of King, Crown Prince and Prince Mohammed as Apostates and decrying arrest of women protestors (5 February in front of MOI building in Riyadh). • Trail of “Al Qaeda Lady” begins in Riyadh (on or about 2 August 2011). On at least two occasions web postings threaten/urge kidnapping of Christians and Saudi Princes to press for release of this lady. • Kingdom recalls ambassador from Syria and King Abdullah calls for end to violence there. • Ramadan period ends peacefully with no significant security incidents.
SIGNIFICANT EVENTS • Situation in Bahrain under control, but tense and fragile. Saudi forces remain in place some demonstrations occurring. One protester reported killed by tear gas. • Situation in Yemen dire (no significant change): • Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh remains in KSA. • Demonstrations and violence continue • 10th Anniversary of September 11th 2001 attacks on US: • Message for US Citizens from US Embassy advising caution/awareness. • Significance of dates have at times in the past been related to terrorist attacks. • No update on Crown Prince Sultan in New York City receiving medical treatment.
