Project Scope • Content Management Software • Migration of all existing Michigan.gov sites to new CMS • Web Analytics software • Quality Assurance software • Michigan.gov hardware replacement • Training and Documentation • Disaster Recovery Plan • Maintenance and on-going support of infrastructure and associated software • Level 2 helpdesk support and operations management
Current Project Activities • Contract awarded to IBM. Contract negotiations in progress. • IBM is the sole contractor. • New CMS, IBM’s Workplace Web Content Management (IWWCM) with Websphere Portal Server. • Hosting Center - Boulder Colorado • Disaster Recovery – Sterling Forest Enterprise Recovery site in southern Orange County, NY (45 miles from midtown Manhattan) – over 200,000 square feet of raised floor • Michigan.gov current design/usability study by MSU’s Usability and Accessibility Center • Communication Plan for new CMS in place • CMA listserv message to all current CMA users • eMichigan web site – a key resource for all CMA training resources • Fewer Vignette CMS training classes will be offered starting October 2008 • New CMS Migration Class • Initial training for eMichigan web developer in support of new CMS
Michigan.gov Design Analysis • Conducted by MSU’s Usability and Accessibility Center
Site Migration – Phased Approach Use of standard distribution model using content count to quantify migration effort Multiple phase approach - 4 migration phases Phase 1, tentative site migrations • Michigan Portal • 2-3 Sites with largest content count, to be determined Phase 1, may include additional sites with largest content count • MDA • DNR • HAL • Human Services • DLEG • MDOT • DEQ
Content Migration Strategy Use of Web Content Integrator (RSS Consumer) to provide continuous flow of content changes and content migration • Authoring continues in the pre-migration environment • Migration process uses a snapshot copy of the data • RSS consumer feed used for content from the Vignette environment to the IBM CMS author environment • RSS feed parallel activity to the migration process • No cutover and freeze of content authoring Majority of portal, content and assets (images and documents) • Websphere Content Integrator – RSS Provider/RSS Consumer Site Area – sub site categories • Scripted API Site – first level categories • Manual
CMS Core Training Courses Train the trainer approach Key course offerings • IWWCM developer course • Websphere 6.0 • Websphere 6.0 site administration
Current Action Plan • Postponement of Michigan.gov site redesign and very limited new websites to extent possible • Workshops and training for website cleanup • Site cleanup of obsolete content and review of site links to shorten the migration effort • Maintain web site updates throughout the transition to the new CMS
Current Status • We are working on the Terms and conditions of the contract. • The contract has been approved by the AD board. • Tentative start date of early January.
