Outline • Introduction • Background and Theory • Methods and Techniques • Case Study • Bus Routing • Conclusion
Introduction • Al Ain City with a population of around 260,000 and around 45,000 school students • There are no established routes for school bus routing • The area of our project is Al Ain city
Introduction • Our aim is to serve the mass transit operation in the UAE • Case Selection • Bus routing
Introduction Project Objectives • A GIS-T was built for the Al Ain City; however, more transportation details should be added to the system • The Vehicle Routing model was successfully implemented for the study area in Al Ain
Outline • Introduction • Background and Theory • Methods and Techniques • Case Study • Bus Routing • Conclusion
Background and Theory Learning this new technology and it will be used it in the career to serve the UAE. Definitions • Routing • Logistics • Mass transit • Algorithms
Housing Background and Theory • Geographic Information System (GIS) Schools Highways Population Land use Features
TransCAD • Geographic Information System designed specifically for use by transportation professionals
Outline • Introduction • Background and Theory • Methods and Techniques • Case Study • Bus Routing • Conclusion
Methods & Techniques Design of the GIS Network for the Study Area • The Micro-station files of the city of Al Ain were received from Al Ain Town Planning in the Intergraph DGN format
Methods & Techniques The Design of the GIS network was conducted by doing the following: • Creating a line Geographic File • Importing the Files • Adding a Field to the Layer • Saving the GIS data file • Creating all layers for the GIS database • Selecting the working layer • Using the Editing Tool Box
Methods & Techniques • Importing the Files
Methods & Techniques • Adding a Field to the Layer

Outline • Introduction • Background and Theory • Methods and Techniques • Case Study • Bus Routing • Conclusion
Conclusion • The routing in Agencies are done manually • Some maps are available for Schools locations • No routes are established for School Buses • Some advisors are available to help new drivers and follow up the buses
Conclusion • According to Emirate Transport, no routing costs are available • The environmental impact is not considered in routing
Conclusion • All aims of the project were achieved • Literature review • Learning GIS Software • Building GIS-T map • Applying routing to case study
