Railway safety • Railway lines can often be found running through the countryside. • Like roads these can be extremely dangerous and there are some important safety tips you should know to help stay safe around them.
Railway safety 1. You should never climb under or over fences which surround railway lines.
Railway safety 2. You should never climb on bridges, especially if they run over a railway line as you could touch the wires and be electrocuted.
Railway safety 3. Only ever cross railway tracks using a level crossing or a bridge.
Railway safety 4. Never play with a balloon or kite near the electricity cables over a railway. This is because the electricity could pass down the string and give you an electric shock, even if the kite isn't touching the wire!
Railway safety 5. Never play on or around railway tracks.
Railway safety 6. Never place anything on railway lines or throw stones at trains.
