  2. What will S3 look like? • Pupils will attend English in two blocks of time on the timetable as at present • Four x 50 minute periods a week in S3 (three in S4)

  3. No Standard Grade...instead continue: • developing four capacities – successful learner; confident individual; responsible citizen; effective contributor • developing skills for learning, skills for life, skills for work

  4. Planning for the future • Progression into senior phase - pupils will all study English in S4 S3 S4 S5 S6 National 4 National 5 Higher 3rd/4thlevel Advanced Higher National 4/5 Higher 4th level 4th level/ National 4 Advanced Higher Higher National 5

  5. What will the course consist of? • Still developing four modes of communication: Reading Writing Talking Listening • Developing skills under three main headings: Communication Interpersonal Thinking

  6. What will be familiar/different? • variety of texts will expand in recognition of changing world • Evidence of attainment will come from a much broader range of sources and pupils will be more involved in its collation • Added Value Unit • Study of texts Understanding, analysis and evaluation • Production of written work Creative/imaginative; discursive; informative • Participation in class/group discussion and delivery of solo talk Challenges, presentation, research…
