What is it and why is it used? • This theory implies mass media has a direct and powerful effect on its audiences. It suggests that the product can have has a massive influence on its audience and their behaviour, sometimes subconsciously. • Furthermore, it is used to influence a large group of people directly and informally with appropriate messages designed to trigger a desired response. However, it can also be used to promote good and bad messages and can take away the audiences view.
How is it used? • It is used by imbedding messages within a text or any media that subconsciously influences the audiences perspectives. An example of this would be: In war of the worlds in 1938, a radio edition. This broadcast was interrupted by a news bulletin which spoke of an alien invasion, 12 million people then heard this and over a million of them believed there was actually an alien invasion.
How does this fit into it? • Music Magazines – They can influence what you listen to and how you should perceive certain artists and that specific genre of music. • TV Magazines- It can impact what you watch and your opinion on different genres of TV. • Fashion magazine – This can strongly influence what younger people especially on what is good and what is wrong for them to wear and telling them how they should look.
