Enter initial fluid composition including decoupled electron donating and accepting species. Specify an ending time for the reaction.
“add” → Fixed→ pH, Gas... “add” → Kinetic→ Microbial reaction Fix chemical conditions in a bioreactor open to the atmosphere and add one or more different microbial populations.
Identify each microbial population with a label and reaction. Microbes can compete for common substrates or carry out separate reactions. In this example, two different strains, (one fast, the other efficient) growing in a chemostat catalyze the same reaction. They differ in their kinetic and growth parameters.
The rapidly metabolizing strain grows fastest initially, but with time is replaced by the more efficient strain.
