Please make sure you review.

Word Study/Wordly Wise • No spelling words this year • Whole class lessons focused on a curriculum provided by UCPS Curriculum Staff • Learning patterns in words, sounds, chunks, etc. • Grade for word study comes from their ability to implement what we have learned in their daily writing across the entire curriculum • Wordly Wise focuses more on vocabulary than spelling • No homework! • Ways to supplement at home: dolch words/sight words, Spelling City,Wordly Wise website
Literacy-writers workshop -5-7 minute mini-lesson -Individual Work -Individual conference -Small group instruction based on student needs Writing: 3 units of study -narrative, opinion, and informational

Social Studies • Geography • How to decode and use maps • Economics • Ways to meet needs and wants, supply and demand, goods and services, saving and borrowing • Civics and Governance • Purpose, roles and responsibilities of citizens • Culture • How the influence reaches communities • Global focus on Colombia
science • Weather • Daily analysis of weather, wind speed and direction, precipitation, role of the sun • Sound • How sound travels, anatomy associated with sound, relationship between sound and vibrations • Matter • States and properties of matter, how they change, comparison of volume and weight • Life Cycles • Stages from birth to adult in caterpillars, comparison of life cycles among different animals.
mathematics • Measurement and Data • time (analog and digital, word problems, money, addition/subtraction, measuring in different units) • Number and Operations (base 10) • Place value-3 digits, skip counting, comparing, fluency with addition and subtraction • Geometry • Drawing and identifying 2D and 3D shapes, working with basic arrays, equal shares • Algebraic Thinking -word problems-writing the equations, add to subtract within 20, memorization of all sums of 1 digit numbers, comparing numbers
