Why Do We Do This? Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards • Gather relevant information from multiple authoritative print and digital sources, using advanced searches effectively; assess the strengths and limitations of each source in terms of the task, purpose, and audience; integrate information into the text selectively to maintain the flow of ideas, avoiding plagiarism and overreliance on any one source and following a standard format for citation. (11-12.W.8)
Why is it Important? • The purpose of an annotated bibliography is to… • Cite sources appropriately • Summarize the information • Think in-depth about what the source means to you • Analyze the validity of the sources
What Will it Look Like? • MLA format • For EACH Source • Works cited • 1stParagraph: Summary • 2nd Paragraph: Evaluation • 3rd Paragraph: Reflection • Repeat this writing process for each of your sources
Summary • This should include • What are the main arguments? • What is the point of this book or article? • What topics are covered? • If someone asked what this article/book is about, what would you say?
Evaluation • This should include • Is it a useful source? • Is the information reliable? • Is this source biased or objective? • What is the goal of this source? • How does it compare with other sources in your bibliography?
Reflection • This should include • Was this source helpful to you? • How does it help you shape your argument? • How can you use this source in your essay? • Has it changed how you think about your topic?
Your Annotated Bib • Should include: • MLA formatting for an essay • MLA formatted citation • Annotation of each source • Article • Chart/graph • It should look something like this example on the class web site
