Jesus’ ministry in Acts A Jesus ministry (just like in Luke) • A Spirit-led ministry • A Goal-oriented ministry • A Seeking & Saving ministry • An Open Arms ministry • A Joy-filled ministry • An ‘Anyone Can!’ ministry
Last topic (Class 4): Open Arms • We saw that just as in Luke, the ministry in Acts was open to everyone: rich, poor, young, old, men, women, Jews & Gentiles • Through the outpouring of the HS, God called his people to break down walls of pride and prejudice, and show that his love extends to all
Last topic (Class 4): Open Arms • Plano ng Dios na magkaroon ng bukas-palad na ministry… lahat ay nakikibahagi, lahat ay may importansya, lahat ay may pananagutan, lahat ay may pananalig.
Acts: A Goal-Oriented Ministry Acts Devotional Series Class #5
The‘natural outline’ from Acts 1:8 • Jerusalem – Acts 1-7 • Judea and Samaria – Acts 8-12 • ‘Ends of the earth’ – Acts 13-28 God had this goal, and HE made it happen!
Growth despite problems! Quotes from history -- Pliny the younger: They [disciples] would rise at [Sunday] daybreak to sing a hymn to Chrestus as their God… They were accused of incestuous relations and cannibalism… Tertullian: The blood of martyrs is the seed…
They never stopped [Gamaliel’s] speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ. - Ac 5.40-42
TWO GOALS of the early church Goal #1 PLEASING GOD Goal #2 SAVING SOULS
1st GOAL of the early church We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad – 2 Co 5.9
2nd GOAL of the early church for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. – 1 Pe 1.9 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. – Php 3.14
Powerful motivations! • Motivation to please God + motivation to save souls; these are so powerful that the early could not be stopped from growing!
Do you have these goals? Doug Jacoby: If the church doesn’t go into the world, the world comes into the church.
When we don’t evangelize • 1. Christians wither, and are cut off for not bearing fruit - Jn 15:1-8 • 2. Churches are removed from their relationship with the Lord, and die - cf. Re 2:1-5; 3:1-2
Kailangan talaga ang evangelism... • Not just for the saving of souls who need the gospel of Jesus Christ • b. But for the saving of souls who have the gospel of Jesus Christ!
The early church was motivated • The church was motivated so they raised up people who were motivated • Those specially motivated (like Paul) in turn motivated the church
So Pasig family… Let us be the GOAL ORIENTED MINISTRY that God calls us to be!
D-group time • Para sa iyo, anong ibig sabihin ng ‘pleasing God’? • Paano mo sisimulan ulit ang goal of ‘saving souls’?
