2.1 Present Simple <-> Present Continuous SIMPLE • Vorm: • hele werkwoord • hele werkwoord + S (he/she/it) • Wanneer gebruik je het? feit/gewoonte (altijd, nooit, regelmatig) • Signaalwoorden always, usually, often, never, every day/week etc. CONTINUOUS • Vorm: • “to be” + hele werkwoord + ING • Wanneer gebruik je het? nu bezig, aan de gang • Signaalwoorden (right) now, at the moment, at present, look, listen
Vragend / ontkennend SIMPLE • Vragende Vorm: • Do / Does (+ onderwerp) + hele werkwoord (ook bij he/she/it) • Ontkennende Vorm: • Don’t / Doesn’t + hele werkwoord (ook bij he/she/it) CONTINUOUS • Vragende Vorm: • “to be” (+ onderwerp) + hele werkwoord + ING • Ontkennende Vorm: • “to be” + not + hele werkwoord + ING
Examples! 1. I never … (laugh) at his jokes, because they aren’t funny. 2. Why … (look) at me like that? 3. My whole family … (live) in Rotterdam. 4. Our aunt Winifred … (hate) cars. 5. David, where are you? Where … you (hide)?

2.2 Past Continous • Vorm • “To be” (was/were) + hele werkwoord + ING • Wanneer gebruik je het? • Iets was bezig in het verleden en er tegelijkertijd iets anders gebeurde. • Signaalwoorden • When I was doingthe dishes whenmyfather walked in the kitchen.
2.3 Past Simple<-> Past Continuous SIMPLE • Vorm: • Werkwoord + ed • Onregelmatige vorm • Wanneer gebruik je het? feit/gewoonte (altijd, nooit, regelmatig) in het verleden CONTINUOUS • Vorm: • “to be” (was/were) + hele werkwoord + ING • Wanneer gebruik je het? toen bezig, aan de gang, tegelijkertijd gebeurde er iets anders.
Examples! 1. Paul ... ... (feel)sick an hour ago, but now he’s a lot better. 2. I … (do) my homework when Suzie … (call) me. 3. Mr Jones … (drive) his car when a cat … (cross) the road. 4. Yesterday, I … (go) to the sports centre.

2.4 Future • Vorm: • Will/shall + hele werkwoord • Will Bijna altijd mogelijk. Alleen niet bij “I” en “we” in vraagzinnen. • Shall Bij I en we in vraagzinnen (ook mogelijk bij “I” en “we” in bevestigende en ontkennende zinnen. • Wanneer gebruik je het? • Toekomst! • Signaalwoorden? • Tomorrow
Examples! 1. I ... never forget the look on his face when he saw the mummy. 2. Ross ... kill you if he finds out you’ve eaten his lunch! 3. The old man asks himself if he ... ever see his grandchild again. 4. I bet it ... be fun to have that operation, but I don’t have a choice. 5. When ... I see you again?
Examples! 1. I will/shall never forget the look on his face when he saw the mummy. 2. Ross will kill you if he finds out you’ve eaten his lunch! 3. 2.5 have to + hele werkwoord • Vorm: • have to + hele werkwoord • Wanneer gebruik je het? • Moeten (verplicht) Don’t have to = niet moeten!
Examples! 1. Jerry / not walk / to school 2. We / go / to the Headmaster’s office at four o’clock. 3. I / not listen / to what you are saying 4. They / do their exams / next May

2.6 can <-> can’t • Vorm: • Can / Can’t + hele werkwoord • Wanneer gebruik je het? • Kunnen (beleefde vraag)
Examples! 1. Can I stay home when you visit aunt Diana? (no) 2. Dad, can Winnie have another ice-cream? (no) 3. Can I sit in the front of the car? (yes)
Examples! 1. Can I stay home when you visit aunt Diana? No, you can’t 2. Dad, can Winnie have another ice-cream? No, she can’t • Can I sit in the front of the car? Yes, you can
2.7 Some <-> Any • Wanneer gebruik je het • Some: Bevestigende zinnen (uitzondering: in vraagzinnen waar je weet dat het antwoord ‘ja’ zal zijn) • Any: Ontkennende zinnen / Vraagzinnen • Wat betekend het: • Enige/enkele/een paar Je hebt de keuze uit: Someany Somebodyanybody Somethinganything Somewhereanywhere
Examples! 1. I didn’t see ... lions when I was in Kenia. 2. Is there … I can find a postoffice? 3. Did they have ... milk left at the shop? 4. O look! There’s … on your sweater. 5. Can I have ... more bread, please?
Examples! 1. I didn’t see any lions when I was in Kenia. 2. Is there anywhere I can find a postoffice? 3. Did they have any milk left at the shop? 4. O look! There’s something on your sweater. 5. Can I have some more bread, please? je weet dat het antwoord ‘ja’ is!
