Why?Cross Cutting Themes • Three Cross Cutting Themes (CCTs) in Wales: • Sustainable Development • Equal Opportunities and Gender Mainstreaming • Tackling Poverty and Social Exclusion • They are NOT ‘bolted on’ at the end of the process but integral to the development of a project
Sustainable Development What are the objectives for Wales? • Reduction in green house gas emissions • Renewable energy • Reduce Waste - recycling • Improve water quality • Improve built environment and access to green spaces • Improve environmental management and risk of pollution • Enhance the natural and cultural environment • Promote social justice; equality and health and wellbeing

SD: Project Level Indicators • Integration of small scale green / blue infrastructure • Activity supporting bio-diversity on a site funded through EU structural funds • Site environmental management plans • Develop an organisational Eco-Code / Travel Plan / Sustainable Transport Initiatives • Local sustainable supply chains developed • Resource efficiency measures • BREEAM excellent where applicable • Attainment of CEQUALL for construction activity • Use of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) where applicable
Project Level • Dedicated specialist CCT team • Early discussion with applicants • Clear priority level guidance • CCT assessment prior to approval • Recommendations given for improvements • Case level examples given • Regular review meetings • On-going support • Additional options for delivering e.g. Project Level Indicators
