Instinct or Learned Behaviors • Instincts are inherited by offspring of animals which effect how they act or behave. • In the tundra many birds nest in the tundra shrubbery in the summer, and will migrate to milder climates before the winter season sets in. • Migration and nesting are both instincts that birds are born knowing how to do.
Learned Behaviors have to be taught to the animal. • Polar bear cubs are born with the instinct to want to chase other animals, but they must be taught by their mother how to hunt their prey properly.
