2. Harvest-a great success • After the seven commands of animalism were inscribed onto the wall gable of big barn, the animals started the great task of running the farm. • The animals set out to begin the harvest. • Animals worked hard. • the harvest was a great success

3. Pigs supervised. • Horses well did their job( boxer and clover) • Harvest was finished two days earlier . • Every mighty animal participated in the harvest( ducks and hens). • The animals were excited about the fact that food was truly their own

4. difficulties in harvesting • Implements were for human beings • No threshing machines. • Had to adapt ancient style for crop harvesting

5. Characterization of Boxer • Boxer was a huge asset • Boxer with his tremendous muscles pulled the chaff through • Not smart but hard working • Boxer’s motto “ I will work harder” .

6. Harvest features • Everyone worked according to his capacity. • Quarrellinq ,biting and jealousy which had been normal features of life in old days almost disappeared. • Cat was very clever because she used to disappear at the work time and appear at the meals time. • The donkey remained the same as it was in Jone’s time , slow and obstinate.

7. Ceremony on Sundays • On Sundays there was no work. • After the breakfast there was a ceremony which was obsevered every week without fail. • First came the hoisting of the flag. • Snowball found a old green table cloth of Mrs. Jones from the harness room. • Snowball painted on the cloth a hoof and horn in white.

8. Con’t • Green colour represents the green fields of England. • The hoof and horn symbolizes for the future Republic of Animals which would arise when the human race had been finally overthrown. • This was run up the flag stuff in the farmhouse garden every Sunday 8, morning. • After flag’s hoisting comes assembly or meeting in which plans for the coming week were made

9. Pigs supervision • Pigs always put forward the resolutions. • Other animals cannot think the resolutions of their own. • Snowball and Napolean were by far the most active in debates. • Both of them were never in agreement. • The meeting always ended with the singing of Beasts of England and afternoon was given up to recreation.

10. Con’t • The pigs had set aside the harness room as headquarterss for themselves. • Snowball busied himself with organising the other animals into what he call as animal committes. • Besides instituting classes in reading and writing he formed eggs production committee for hens, clean tail s league for the cows, the whiter wool movement for sheep and various others

11. Failure of animal committees • Snowball’s attempt to organize animals into animal committees was a failure. • It was difficult to tame the wild animals. • The cat became a member of the re-education committee and was an active member for a few days. • Reading and writing classes were a great success. By autumn all animals were literate to a certain extent. • Pigs could read and write perfectly.

12. Con’t • Dogs learned to read quite well. They were only interested in reading the seven commandments. • Muriel, the goat, read better than the dogs. Read out newspaper to other animals. • Clover learnt the whole alphabet but could not put words together. • Boxer could not get beyond the letter D. • Mollie learnt only the six alphabets which spelt her name. • Other animals on the farm could not get further than the letter A.

13. Reduction of seven commands to single • Sheep, hens and duck were unable to learn the seven commandments by heart. • Snowball reduced the seven commandments to a single saying: “Four legs good, two legs bad” • Snowball claimed that whoever grasped this would be safe from the influence of humans.

14. Objection of birds • Birds objected to this saying, as they have two legs too. • Snowball satisfied them by saying: “A bird’s wings are an organ of propulsion not of manipulation” • Snowball also claimed that the distinguishing mark of man is his hand, which does all the mischief.

15. “Four legs good, two legs bad” • All the animals at the farm learnt the new saying by heart. • The saying was inscribed on the end wall of the barn above the seven commandments. • Sheep developed a great liking for the new saying. • Napoleon took no interest in Snowball’s committees. He thought education of the young was more important than the grown ups.

16. Propaganda of Napolean • Napolean not interseted in Snowball committes • Emphasized on youngster’s education. • Sequestered nine newborn puppies.

17. Dominance of pigs • Mystery of apple and milk • Doubts and questions of other animals • Biased attitude of pigs(including Napolean and Snowball ). • Explanations by Squealer • Threat of Mr. Jones’s return was enough.

18. Summary of the chapter • The animals started the task of running the farm. • Boxer- huge asset • Mollie-extraordinay lazy • Benjaminused to answer every question "Donkeys live a long time. None of you has ever seen a dead donkey.“ • Pigs tried to educate farm animals

19. Con’t • seven commands condensed to single maxim. • Napoleon-took nine puppies to isolated loft • Mystery of apple and milk.
