How NWEA tests are different • Initial questions are at grade level, as students give correct answers the next questions will gradually become more difficult • If student gives incorrect answer, then the question become easier until correct answers are given regularly. • Scores are not simply a level for “Reading” for example. Reading is broken down by: Comprehensive & Metacognition, Informational Text, Narrative Text, Word recognition, Word study, Fluency. • Student reports are broken down by: Skills & Concepts to Enhance, Skills and Concepts to Develop, and Skills and Concepts to Introduce.
A few things to keep in mind… • NWEA Tests are nationally normed • May not specifically meet Michigan benchmarks, but certainly include most benchmarks. • Norms give beginning of the year, middle of the year, and end of the year Rausch Unit (RIT) scores. • There are standard reports available • You can obtain special reports as well • Scores are available about 24 hours after testing has been given. School District scores are available about 24-48 hours after all district testing has ended.
