2. A note from me… Parents, please remember to sign your child’s behavior clip chart each night, as well as initial their “Thinkmark” (nightly reading log) when they have read to you each night. Thank you for a great return today of our Friday Folders! It is so important for you to take the time to go through your child’s work with them and see how they are doing. To them about an assignment, ask questions, or have them explain a concept or idea to you. This not only helps to reinforce and cement their learning, but shows them you care and are involved in what they are doing in class. It also provides a great opportunity for discussion and questions about their learning. When you read our newsletter each week, please remember to write the mystery word in your child’s agenda and they receive extra bucks. Please talk with your child about talking in class during instruction time and the importance of following directions. When a student is disruptive during classroom instruction, not only does it take away from his/her own learning, but it also takes away vital learning opportunities from each child in the classroom. A positive attitude, respect and good manners are at the top of the list of behavior expectations in our classroom. There is a direct correlation between low test scores and listening habits/behavior! We have begun doing some daily handwriting practice to help improve our penmanship, in preparation for cursive. Some of the our students have formed some bad habits and become quite lazy and careless in their writing, resulting in sloppy, illegible work. Students will be asked to redo any work that falls into that category. “Take your time and always do your best!” Just a reminder parents, that your child is not sent to the nurse for every complaint. Students are carefully “screened” before a decision is made to leave class and visit the nurse’s office. Please check out our “Health Guidelines” section from the menu on our class website for further information. • We had an outstanding assembly last Friday featuring “The Ned Show.” The show isan elementary school assembly program promoting positive attitudes, better behavior & academic achievement in school. The character education assembly is based on the acronym NED - Never give up, Encourage others, Do your best. • Presented through storytelling, humor, visuals and audience participation, The NED Show motivates, inspires, and encourages students to become champions at school and in life. These are areas that we stress every day in class and are essential life skills for success. Ask your child about the show and see if they remember the acronym for NED! NED yo-yos will be sold each morning this week before school. The mystery word this week is: respect. • Do you expect your child to perform a regular routine of household tasks and responsibilities at home? • A child should be a contributing member of their family and have some daily responsibilities. Here are some reasons why: (1) Children learn the valuable life skill of responsibility and accountability. (2) Children learn to develop an appreciation for the efforts of their parents. (3) Chores develop feelings of accomplishment which add greatly to a child’s self-esteem. (4) Chores help develop a sense of security---participating generates a stronger bond in the family. (5) Chores teach the importance and value of work. (6) Chores teach a child how to serve others. Daily responsibilities at home also make for a better student at school---they take on more personal responsibility for their own learning and behavior, and they also take greater pride in their work. • Please mark your calendars for next Thursday night, August 29th for our annual Falcon Hill Curriculum Night. This is an evening for parents to come visit our classroom and learn about third grade curriculum and expectations, There are two sessions being held~~ 6:30-6:55pm, and 7:00 to 7:25. You are welcome to attend either one.
