Powering the Future Presenter: Derrick Weisbrod
THE PROBLEM AND OPPORTUNITY • Energy costs will continue to increase. • Harvesting wind energy is becoming a meaningful alternative for the generation of electricity and one that is completely renewable. • To date, industry’s focus has been on large, industrial wind farms. • Leaving the commercial and residential market largely untapped • This represents a LARGE opportunity in the US wind industry • Relatively few practical, adaptable and cost effective wind technology solutions are available to serve this segment today. 2
Who is Freiezo? • Freiezo’s mission is to satisfy customers’ needs with the most efficient and cost effective products & solutions in the wind energy industry with a focus on the residential and light commercial use • Founded in 2009 & located in St. Peters, Mo. • The team has over 100 years of experience including: • Electrical and Mechanical Product Development and Design • Professional Inventing • Finance • Entrepreneurship • Technology Implementation • 5 Issued Patents (2 w/Freiezo)
OUR PRODUCT • Garden Joule SVT • Wind Joule SVT The Joule Series Shrouded Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (SVT) Mini Joule SVT Unlike traditional horizontal axis turbines that look like giant fans, a VAWT is basically a waterwheel turned on its side, powered by the wind rather than water. Ours adds a twist to the traditional VAWT by having a shroud which makes it a SVT. Because the blades rotate vertically and are shielded by the shroud, SVTs require less space per unit than horizontal axis turbines and is quieter as well. 4

OUR SVAWT IS BETTER Freiezo’s product can harvest more energy from the wind because of its unique patented shroud, blade and brakeless generator designs. These unique designs make it possible for the Freiezo Joule Series SVTs to operate at a much wider range than our competitors The design of most competitors permits exhaust while Freiezo’s shroud directs the air flow, even further reducing the footprint required The shroud also shields the blades from the wind reducing resistance on the return path Together this means more electricity produced for the consumer, often in areas not suitable for existing products, more energy savings, and a quicker payback of the initial investment. 6
COMPETITIVE COMPARISON The design of Freiezo’s SVTs provides nearly silent operation, very important for residential and commercial applications in areas where noise pollution is an issue. Birds do not have issues with our SVT. This is not always the case for some competitors. Freiezo’s SVT can effectively operate at wind speeds between 4 and 112 mph. Other VAWTs generally begin operating at 6 mph. The 2 mph advantage means Freiezo’s products can generate electricity for customers in areas not available to others Wind Farms based on horizontal turbines have a much narrower operating range between 12 and 65 mph 7
St Louis University Wind Tunnel Testing • During June 2012 static and dynamic tests were conducted on a full sized Mini Joule (prototype) and an alternative design based on PacWind’sSeahawk turbine (alternate). The purpose of the alternative was to approximate the comparative advantage of the Mini Joule design versus a generic competitive (traditional unshrouded VAWT) design. Both were 7 blade designs with equal swept area and blade size. • The wind tunnel at St Louis University, and previously owned by McDonnell Douglass, was used for all tests. • DoTec, an independent professional engineering firm, reviewed all test protocols, procedures and calculations. • Key data collected: • Dynamic measures including rpm, current, and volts providing data necessary to calculate output in watts at various wind speeds. • Static torque, measured with a strain gage, to model a preliminary torque profile as a proxy for energy production at various angles of drive cage rotation.
Key Assumptions, Observations • Due to the size of the wind tunnel, all turbines were tested on their side. While this eliminated the ability to take absolute performance measurements, it is believed to be valid for the comparison of the different designs. It is also believed that the absolute data is well below that which will be obtained from a “normal,” upright arrangement. • Total swept area of the shrouded Mini Joule and alternate design is .204 m2. 10
Key Findings • In every case examined, the Mini Joule substantially outperformed the alternate design. • Findings at 30 mph: • Mini Joule 40.6 watts • Competitive Design 17 watts • The Mini Joule’s shroud materially improves energy harvest. • The torque profile of the Mini Joule has a distinct pulse not seen in the alternative design. It may be possible to manage the pulse in order to improve harvest even further. • This may be quite important because if we can derive a method to stay in the sweet spot of the pulse longer, we can increase our energy productivity. 11

EXISTING DISTRIBUTION PARTNERS • In addition to pursuing additional distribution channel partners, Freiezo will • aggressively develop relationships with: • Architects • Residential Real Estate Developers • Commercial Read Estate Developers 16
FINANCING MILESTONES We are seeking $820k of funding to finish design work, begin production of the Mini Joule and Garden Joule, and product launch into the retail/small commercial markets. We plan to subsequently seek an additional $3.2M to support product launch into the larger commercial and industrial markets with the Wind and Farm Joules. 19
