REEEP in Southern Africa • REEEP is funding: • Southern Africa Financiers Network meeting • Southern Africa Tradable Renewable Certificates initiative & policy network • Darling Visitor Centre – as leader of community involvement • To Fund a Regional Node of the REEEP International Secretariat
REEEP can Promote Sustainable Energy Cities Initiatives Globally • Raise profile of ICLEI & Cities Initiatives • Attract new resources for networks & activities • Share & build understanding of Cities Strategies • Support & promote leading Cities & best practise • Raise City-issues in context of international debates on energy sector reform – electricity and transport • Showcase at Renewables 2004 – June, Bonn
Ideas for a REEEP Sustainable Energy Cities Initiative • Identify leaders of a REEEP Cities Initiative – REEEP Twinning between Cape Town and Leicester? • Work with ICLEI to build on initiatives of major cities - London, Chicago, Beijing, Sydney, Delhi, Sao Paulo? • Cities Renewable Energy Targets – for example Beijing 20% for 2008 Olympics • Public sector as procurer of sustainable energy • Buildings standards & regulations of buildings
