Apply critical thinking to inform and communicate professional judgments
Social workers are knowledgeable about the principles of logic, scientific inquiry, and reasoned discernment. They use critical thinking augmented by creativity and curiosity. Critical thinking also requires the synthesis and communication of relevant information.
Gen. 3.1 Distinguish, appraise, and integrate multiple sources of knowledge, including research-based knowledge, and practice wisdom • Example: As social workers we are not going to get all our answers from our textbooks. We are going to have to research certain issues. We can also utilize our supervisors and seasoned co-workers. Every case is not the same and what might work for one is not always going to work for someone else.
Gen 3.2 Analyze models of assessment, prevention, intervention, and evaluation. • Example: Attend trainings regarding assessment tools or research tools offered in your area of choice. We utilize a Diagnostic Assessment, a Comprehensive Clinical Assessment, and a SUDDS IV as assessment for our clients. These assessment tools ask information to better assist use in meeting the needs of our clients.
Gen 3.3 Demonstrate effective oral and written communication in working with individuals, families, groups, organizations, communities, and colleagues. • Example: Always be prepared, use proper English, and speak knowledgeable of the issue at hand. Stay current on issues that are sensitive to your clients needs and resources that may be available to them. • When speaking with another agency have the clients chart in front of you with their information, so you will not have to put them on hold or call them back.
