INITIAL LICENSE • Mentoring and Induction Program in Year 1 • 50 hours of professional development post-Induction year(s) • Masters Degree by end of year 5
PRELIMINARY LICENSE • For those who have not completed an approved Educator Prep program • Must pass the MTEL • Can teach for five years • Must complete an approved post-BA Educator Prep Program or approved Performance Review Program within the five years • Next step is an Initial License
PROFESSIONAL LICENSE • Taught for at least 3 years under an Initial License • Mentoring and Induction Program • 50 Hours PD post-Induction year(s) • Obtain a Masters Degree in education/ content area, or • Complete approved 12 credit program (if already have a Masters in field other than license), or • Obtain National Board certification
PROFESSIONAL STATUS • Term applies to Public Schools of Brookline • After three years • May get professional status but not have a professional license • Moving toward a more coordinated program of support in years 2 and 3 • Demonstrated growth in designated “competencies”
RELICENSURE • Every five years • 150 PDPs in field of primary license; 90 in content; 80% aligned with goals of school/district • 30 PDPs for each secondary license • Primary license should reflect current position • Must have an Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP)
IPDP • Online at the PD web site or hard copy • IPDP reviewed and signed by supervisor: beginning of year 1; end of year 2; end of year 4; end of year 5 • Responsibility lies with the educator • 80% of goals must align with system/school goals • Can revise at any time • Go to the following link for Q & A’s: http://www.doe.mass.edu/recert/qa.html
PDPs • In general, one hour of learning = one PDP • Instructors may be granted twice the number of PDPs as participants for the first time develop and teach a course • Must earn 10 PDPs on a topic • Must document learning and have “observable demonstrations”
AUDITS • Can be audited for five years after being recertified • Must have an IPDP with supervisor signatures • Must have observable demonstrations of learning
