  2. Introduction. • The Romans were the first to project an image in a darkened room (Camera Obscura). • The first permanent photograph was taken in 1827 by Nicephore Niepce. • The first commercial photographic system was revealed in 1839 and was invented by Louis Dagaurre in France...

  5. The basics of early photography • A silver coated copper plate or piece of paper. • A light sensitive substance (silver salts). • A camera. • A developer. • A way of fixing the image. • Protection of the image (case).

  6. Light sensitive substance Silver nitrite or silver iodide turns black when exposed to light. Silver salts formed the basis of early photography.They were coated on to either a metal plate or paper.
